Compton CC v SALTHILL CC - 23rd July 2016

Salthill travelled to Compton looking to get back to winning ways after a disappointing result last week, Compton won the toss and decided to bat. A.Court 1-3 and J.Cox 0-23 got salthill off to a good start leaving Compton 20-1 off 12 overs. J.Hardman 3-18 and R.Dawtrey 3-24 continued to take wickets regularly leaving Compton struggling to make partnerships and runs on a fairly decent batting track. S.King 2-0 wrapped things up leaving Compton 84 all out which was a below par score. A.Wallsgrove 32 got the reply off to a good start finding the boundary regularly before missing time a drive straight back to the bowler. Salthill eased there way to the target before loosing 3 quick wickets in 2 overs. J.Cox 6* and G.Hibbard 5* saw salthill home to pick up a good win and 22 points. Salthill entertain steep and home next week.

Gosport Borough CC v SALTHILL CC

Salthill continue great start to season with superb win over Gosport 3's.

A chilly afternoon and a soft wicket greeted Salthill at Gosport's Privet Park. Gosport 3's won the toss and put Salthill into bat first. A watchful opening partnership of 95 from Alec Wallsgrove (43) and Liam Dawtry (47) provided a solid base from which Salthill would build. With Wallsgrove and Dawtry removed and Salthill on 108-2 of 28 overs, Nick Bishop came to the crease to score an excellent 53*. Bishop had notable support from James Cox (15) and Captain Ashley Court (22*) to push Salthill up to an incredible 215-5 and full batting points.

Salthill entered the field knowing that Gosport's target of 216 would be a tall order on the bowler friendly wicket. A. Court and J.  Cox opened the bowling and after 9 overs had reduced Gosport to 20-6 with both bowlers taking 3 wickets each. A change of bowling stemmed the flow of wickets but Jack Hardman made the next break through to leave Gosport on 47-7. Resistance from Gosport came from Gosport's numbers 8 (D Smith) & 9 (G. Archer) scoring 17 and 15 respectively. But Salthill got the job done just after drinks bowling Gosport out for 79 and completing a 136 run victory. 

Salthill Cricket Club will be hosting there annual Open Day on the 14th of August at the Fishbourne Centre. This is held in support of St. Wilfred's Hospice and proceeds from the event will be split between the Club and St. Wilfred's. Follands CC v SALTHILL CC

Salthill March On After Another Impressive Win

Salthill travelled to Follands looking to get back to winning ways. Follands won the toss and elected to bat. Follands got off to a bad start loosing a wicket in the first over. Tight bowling from James Cox 1-36 and Ashely Court 2-15 left the home team 20-1 off 14 overs. Ryan Dawtrey 6-31 came on and tore Follands middle order to pieces With some good catching and excellent fielding. Jack Hardman 0-32 and Steve King 1-38 carried on with tight bowling before some lusty blows from the tail got the home team to a below par 151. Salthill lost Liam Dawtrey in the first over to a gem of a delivery, Glen Standford came to the crease and decided to attack from ball 1. Boundaries were flowing and brought up a rapid 50 in 20 balls, he eventually fell for 67. Rupert Fisk 32* and Patrick Elsbury 15* saw salthill home with 21 overs to spare for the loss of 4 wickets. Salthill welcome Hambledon III's next week.
SALTHILL v Petersfield II

Big win for Salthill after tricky start 

An overcast afternoon and a bowler friendly wicket at the Fishbourne centre, home of Salthill CC, greeted Salthill and Petersfield II. Peterfield won the toss and put Salthill in to bat and it looked to be the correct decision when both openers were removed cheaply with E Bayliss taking both wickets. Scott Richardson and Nick Bishop steadied the ship however talking Salthill from 7-2 to 66-3 when Richardson was dismissed for 21. Bishop continued what he started with Rupert Fisk joining him both scoring at quick rates to finish on 44 and 43 respectively. Then Salthill's batting wobbled losing the next 3 wickets for 6 leaving Salthill on 141-7. However the tail-end contributed another 54 runs for the loss of 2 wickets as Salthill finished on 195-9.

Petersfield II's batting started strong with C Salmon and D Squires making a 27 run partnership. However James Cox made the vital breakthrough in the 8th over, bowling D Squires on the wicket that was offering plenty for the bowlers. Captain Ashley Court delivered very tight bowling at the other end, bowling 3 maidens and a double wicket maiden in 7 overs before finishing on 2-21 leaving Petersfield II on 27-3 in the 9th over. With Salthills opening bowlers exposing the Petersfield II's middle order, Steve King and Ryan Dawtry continued where Court and Cox had left off taking 3-38 and 3-3 respectively. R Dawtry's figures of 3-3 was a very impressive start to his senior cricket figures, turning 18 on the day of the game. With Petersfield II's on 89-9, Jack Hardman came on to see the game off taking the final wicket with his 3rd ball to complete an impressive win for Salthill CC. 

Salthill have now played 4 league games, winning 3 of them, as they look for a top half finish after promotion last season.
Friends v SALTHILL

An overcast Saturday afternoon in Hamble started with Salthill CC winning the toss and electing to bowl first against Friends CC.

Friends made a solid and fast paced start with N. Richards hitting numerous boundaries to reach 22 before being dismissed by Ashley Court with a sharp catch from Rupert Fisk. A. Court then picked up another wicket trapping M. Thomas LBW leaving Friends at 40-2 off of 9 overs. Salthill's bowlers picked up the pace and within 10 overs had reduced Friends to 89-8 thanks to some quality bowing from Ryan Dawtrey and Jack Hardman picking up 4-39 and 4-47 respectively. Unfortunately Salthill couldn't build on their dominant position and S. Ward & J. Chauttan played well to rebuild the Friends innings to finish on 196 all out. 

A solid start for their batting innings for Salthill led to Liam Dawtrey and Alec Wallsgrove to a 70 run partnership for the first wicket before Wallsgrove was caught for 14 in the 17th over. Salthill progressed slowly with the next partnership totalling 50 in 11 overs. Scott Richardson hit a composed 28 before being dismissed by O. Jack. Ashley Court and Dawtrey upped the rate to take Salthill closed to the required total of 197 before Dawtrey was dismissed for 87 following a masterful display with the bat with Salthill on 186. James Cox joined Court (29 not out) at the crease to see the remaining runs in 42nd over for Salthill's 2nd win of the season and maximum points for the day.
SALTHILL v Solent Rangers 

Salthill CC hosted Solent Rangers 1st XI CC at The Fishbourne Centre for both teams debut season in the Hampshire Regional Divison 1 South following both teams promotions last season. Rangers won the toss and elected to bat first on a green wicket. Salthill’s opening bowlers, A. Court and J. Cox, made light work of Rangers top and middle order taking 1-10 and 6-32 respectively. Rangers were bowled out for 57 within 20 overs thanks to great support bowling with J. Hardman picking up 2-15. Salthill started with A. Wallsgrove making a composed 22* however his opening partner L. Dawtry was dismissed for a duck. With L. Dawtry’s dismissal L. Carter came to the crease who quickly went about scoring 17* and with that Salthill were able to knock off Rangers total in 10 overs. An impressive start to the season, following their promotion, for Salthill CC with challenging for  back-to-back promotion’s the aim for the 2016 season.

Wickham CC v SALTHILL CC - 9th July 2016

Salthill continue impressive season with battling win over Wickham.

An overcast afternoon in Wickham, Hampshire set the scene for Salthill CC's 6th win of the season. Salthill were put into the field after losing the toss with the formidable partnership of Ashley Court and James Cox opening the bowling. However Salthill were unable to make the breakthrough until the 28th over, well after drinks, with Steve King providing the first Wickham wicket with Wickham on 109. After this wicket, Salthill proceeded to take wickets at regular intervals to leave Wickham on 161-9 at the end of the innings. Salthill's wicket takers were Steve King (6-0-26-2), James Cox (10-1-47-3), Rupert Fisk (5-0-13-1) & Ashley Court (10-2-24-1).

Salthill started their batting innings feeling confident that a target of 162 was comfortably reachable. A. Court started the runs flowing freely with Alec Wallsgrove anchoring the other end. Court was caught in the deep on 35 with Salthill on 53-1 introducing Jamie Gray to the crease. Gray and Wallsgrove guided Salthill to drinks on a score of 70-1 needing another 92 to win. Gray was bowled by D Chetri for 14 and in stepped R Fisk, coming off the back of a fantastic bowling and fielding performance, full of confidence and looking to step up the run rate. Fisk spent no time getting his eye in and when his wicket fell 25 minutes later Salthill had moved from 84-2 to 150 leaving only Salthill only 12 runs to win in 10 overs. Wallsgrove saw off the innings reaching his 50 in 80 balls and ending on 53* taking Salthill to their 6th win of the season having played 8 games in Regional Division 1 South.

Salthill are hosting their annual open day with St. Wilfred's on the 14th of August at the Fishbourne Centre on Blackboy Lane and look forward to welcoming you to this exciting event.
