ANOTHER CLOSE VICTORY AT ARUNDEL
Sunday side v Arundel 6 August 2017
Salthill managed to get home by one wicket in a thoroughly
enjoyable game at Arundel. The home side won the toss and elected to bat first,
scoring 172 for 4 in their 40 overs. Skipper N. “Yorkie” Davis retired after
scoring 53 not out and yes he did buy a jug in the bar afterwards. The other
main contributors were N Fisher (38 not out) and D Fitzpatrick (21 not out).
All members of the Salthill team managed at least one over,
the best figures being Jack Hardman 7 overs, 1 maiden, 20 runs for one wicket;
Rupert Fisk (18.104.22.168), Adrian Elsbury
(22.214.171.124) and Mick Eggleton (126.96.36.199)
Salthill got over to a good reply with an opening stand of
41 in 7 overs before Alec Wallsgrove
departed. Opener Ross Harrop put on another 41 with Scott Wilson, before he was
caught behind for, appropriately enough, 41. Scott went on to score 44 when he
was caught on the boundary (off an alleged no ball) and along with Rupert who
scored 27 provided a firm foundation and apparent comfortable winning position.
From 125-2 Saltill managed to collapse to 157-7, thanks to some careless shots
from the middle order and very good bowling from Ms. J. Payne who finished with
3 overs, 4 wickets for 7 runs. The tail managed to wag gently and score the
final few runs as Adrian took us over the line with a typical boundary shot.
Thanks to our hosts and tea ladies for a very enjoyable game
played in a good spirit.
